Hearings/Privilege of the Floor: One parent discussed issues about textbooks, the science program and the foreign language program.

The following represents actions taken by the Board of Education at a regular meeting held on September 11, 2000. The board:

1. DISCUSSED the district's 2000-2001 goals
2. RECOGNIZED Norman A. Petricca, who retired as a delivery truck driver after 36 years with the district.
3. DISCUSSED the presentation at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the senior high school auditorium from the developers of the Glenville Energy Park power plant project.
4. HEARD from Superintendent Michael J. Marcelle, who gave the board an overview of opening week activities at the six schools. Enrollment stood at 3,051 students at the six schools, up 23 from the 1999-2000 school year.
5. REVIEWED the written summer school report from Summer School Principal Robert Loggins.
6. AMENDED the resolution approved on July 24, 2000, to reflect that Real Lease Inc., has nominated Citi Mortgage, Inc., as the lessor.
7. AUTHORIZED the superintendent to execute a Tri-Party Security and Custodial Agreement with Manufacturers and Traders Trust Co.

9. Communications

a. APPROVED the request for an unpaid leave of absence from Janet L. Osterhout, English teacher (Senior High School), effective October 1, 2000 through August 31, 2002.
b. ACCEPTED the letter of resignation from Karen Darrow as school monitor (Glendaal School), effective August 29, in order for her to accept her new position as a teacher aide (Glendaal School).
c. ACCEPTED the letter of resignation from Mary Beth J. Fenton as a teacher aide (Glen-Worden School), effective August 29.
d. ACCEPTED the letter of resignation from Michele E. Pederson as a teacher aide (Sacandaga School), effective August 15.
e. ACCEPTED the letter of resignation from Elizabeth C. Heddesheimer as a teacher aide (Lincoln School), effective September 5.
f. ACCEPTED the letter of resignation from John Schultz as a cleaner (Districtwide), effective September 1.

10. Report of the Superintendent

a. Staffing
1. APPROVED employing John Geniti, Dean of Students (Senior High School), for a total of 11 additional days at the rate of 1/200 of his 2000-01 annual salary.
2. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Erin C. Schrader as a science teacher (Senior High School), effective September 1, 2000, through June 30, 2001, with 2000-2001 salary to be $19,438.80 (Step 1, 60% basis).
3. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Lisa M. Bourassa as foreign language teacher (Junior High School), effective September 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001, with 2000-2001 salary to be $13,132 (Step 1 + 16, 40% basis).
4. APPROVED the increase in assignment of Andrea DiCaprio, teaching assistant (Sacandaga School), from 4.2 hrs./day to 5.7 hrs./day effective September 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001, with no change in his current rate of pay.
5. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Diury Alvarado as a teaching assistant (Glen-Worden School), effective September 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $11.96 (Step 3, 1.5 hrs./day).
6. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Maria Goodwill as a teaching assistant (Junior High School), effective September 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $12.29 (Step 4, 2.5 hrs./day).
7. APPROVED the increase in assignment of Linda Risley, teaching assistant (Junior High School) from 1.25 hrs./day to 3.75 hrs./day, effective September 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001, with no change in her current rate of pay.
8. APPROVED the adjustment in the 2000-2001 hourly salary of Carol Chlopecki, teacher aide (Transportation, 22.5 hrs./week) from $7.20 to $8.40, effective September 1.
9. APPROVED the adjustment in the 2000-2001 hourly salary of Beverly Brooks, teacher aide (Transportation, 22.25 hrs./week), from $7.20 to $7.00, effective September 1.
10. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Erin Williams as a teacher aide (Junior High School), effective September 5, 2000, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $9.00 (Step 11, 33 hrs./wk).
11. APPROVED the increase in assignment of Sandra DeLarm, teacher aide (Lincoln School), from 30.5 hrs./week to 31.75 hrs./week, effective September 12, 2000, with no change in her current rate of pay.
12. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Suzanne S. Johnson as a teacher aide (Lincoln School), effective September 5, 2000, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $8.00 (Step 6, 31.75 hrs./week).
13. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Karen Darrow as a teacher aide (Glendaal School), effective September 5, 2000, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $7.20 (Step 2, 30.5 hrs./week).
14. APPROVED the increase in assignment of Bonnie Falso, teacher aide (Glendaal School), from 30.5 hrs./week to 40 hrs./week, effective September 5, 2000, with no change in her current rate of pay.
15. APPROVED the increase in assignment of Cynthia Orlando, Teacher Aide (Glendaal School), from 15.5 hrs./week to 20.5 hrs./week, effective September 5, 2000, with no change in her current rate of pay.
16. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Jane Martinec as a teacher aide (Glen-Worden School), effective September 5, 2000 with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $9.00 (Step 11, 31.75 hrs./week).
17. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Elizabeth Newport as a teacher aide (Glen-Worden School), effective September 5, 2000, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $7.00 (Step 1, 18 hrs./week).
18. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Anthony Randazzo as a teacher aide (Transportation), effective September 6, 2000 through June 21, 2000, with 2000-2001 hourly salary to be $7.40 (Step 3, 23.75 hrs./week).
19. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Diane Wyso as a teacher aide (Lincoln School), effective September 18, 2000, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $9.00 (Step 11, 31.75 hrs./week).
20. APPROVED the part-time appointment of Cynthia DaMassa as school monitor (Junior High School), effective September 6, 2000 through June 21, 2001, with 2000-2001 salary to be at the hourly rate of $7.00 (Step 1, 1 hr./day).
21. APPROVED the probationary appointment of Carlos Ortiz as a cleaner (High School), effective September 5, 2000, in accordance with Civil Service regulations, with 2000-2001 annual salary to be at the rate of $17,680.
22. TERMINATED the probationary appointment of Jaimy Piccirilli as a cleaner (Districtwide), effective c.o.b. August 31, 2000.
