PTA Council Meeting Minutes

November 4, 2008

 

Attendance: Steven Winters-Bona, Sharon Sharrow, Sue Caldwell, Denise Rudolph, Susan Swartz, Karen Sroczynski, Lisa Basil, Jen Pietrow, Jennifer Prusinowski, Linda Kalasinski, Melissa Ellwanger, Cathy Conroy

 

Call to Order-

SecretaryÕs Report, Cathy Conroy: Minutes presented and approved from the September 23rd meeting by unanimous vote.

 

TreasurerÕs Report, Steven Winters-Bona: Minimal activity to this point. Interest of $3.01 posted, bank balance as of September 30 is $4,409.80. Reminder to schools to file form 990E by 11/15. Report approved by unanimous vote.

 

Reflections, Linda Kalasinski: 105 entries this year, number down from last year. Reminder to all schools Ð NEW REFLECTIONS REPS NEEDED for next year.

 

Founders Day, Sharon Sharrow for Gregg Zeman: Dinner is set for February 3, 2009. Cut off for reservations will be January 23 with no exceptions, no walk-ins will be allowed this year. Council will be getting a price quote from Riverstone Manor for comparison to Glen Sanders. Reminder to all schools, please ask your presenters to be respectful of time limitations.

 

Administration, Susan Swartz: Building Proposition of $26.7 million will be presented to the public for a vote on December 16, 2008. Voting will take place in the High School from 6:00 am until 9:00 pm. In depth information about the proposition can be found in the Tartan Report and on the District web site. Community forums will be held November 12 at 7:00 pm and November 15 at 10:00 am at the Middle School.

 

Our district is piloting a new Elementary ELA curriculum. We have a new OPAL teacher, Mrs. Rueda. The district is also researching the possibility of full day kindergarten for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

Glendaal: By-laws have been re-done and approved.

 

Glen Worden: Fall Festival went well, Book Fair is in progress. Movie Night 11/21.

 

Lincoln: Membership has risen, 38 members are men. Movie Night 11/14.

 

Sacandaga: Fall fundraiser went well, as did the Book Fair.

 

Middle School: Halloween Teen Town went well. Penny Harvest is under way. MS Drama Club is doing GREASE this year.

 

High School: watch for flyer for the 2nd Annual Cabin Fever party. High School PTA desperately needs new members and any ideas on how to draw new members are welcome.  Numbers have been dwindling the last few years it is becoming almost impossible for the PTA to continue on with the current low membership numbers.
