for parents regarding the H1N1 (swine) flu
- Wash your hands
and your children’s hands frequently. It is best to use liquid
soap and water or non-alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cover coughs
- do not cough or sneeze into your hands; use a tissue or cough or sneeze
into the crook of your arm.
- The Yard Stick
Rule – stay 3 feet (a yard stick) away from somebody
who is coughing or sneezing.
- Stay home when sick
- Flu-like symptoms include a fever of more than 100 degrees F., feverishness,
cough, sore throat, runny nose, or stuffy nose. Additional symptoms
may be experienced with swine flu, including muscle pain, fatigue, and
sometimes vomiting or diarrhea.
- Keep children home
who have flu-like illness until 24 hours after the fever is
gone (without medication)
- Report your child’s
flu-like illness to school
- Do not treat children
with flu-like illness with aspirin
