  1. Resolution: Accept Donations for various Senior High School Award Scholarships 

Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education accept the attached donations to be applied to various Senior High School Scholarship Awards, as submitted.

  1. Resolution: Enter into the Service Agreement with the Albany-Schoharie- Schenectady-Saratoga Board of Cooperative Educational Services July 2023 through June 2027

Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve the Resolution to enter into a four (4) year service agreement with the CR BOCES in order for the CR BOCES to furnish certain services to the District, as submitted.

  1. Request to Establish a Student Club at Glen-Worden Elementary School – Lego Club 

Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve the request to establish the Lego Club at Glen-Worden Elementary School, as submitted.

  1. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education accept the resignation of Joshua Wrabel, Maintenance (Buildings and Grounds), effective c.o.b. March 27, 2023, with appreciation to his service to the district.

  1. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve the probationary appointment of Marissa Gordon, Academic Head of English and Social Studies, 11 month, (Districtwide) effective May 15, 2023 through May 14, 2027, with the 2022-2023 salary to be prorated at the rate of $112,000. Ms. Gordon has initial School Building Leader certification.

  2. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education rescind the appointment of Stephen Fucarino, Special Education Teacher (Senior High School).

  3. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve the extension of the appointed end date for Christine Caffrey as a Reading Teacher (Districtwide), from March 31, 2023 to May 31, 2023, with no change in hourly rate.

  4. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve the end of the supplemental appointment for Margaret Zarnofsky as Middle School Art Club, effective March 28, 2023.

  5. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve the following individuals as Chaperones for 2022-2023, at the rate set forth in the collective bargaining contract:
    Jessica Crisci, Cheryl Ferraro, Chad Ploss, John Prylo

  6. Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education approve Allison Beauchemin for supplemental appointments of Intramural Activities for the 2022-2023 school year, at the rate of $22.74/hour.

Regular Meeting Minutes

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of the Scotia-Glenville Central School District was held in the Cafeteria of the Middle School, in said district on April 3, 2023

President Talbot called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m.

Present: Bucciferro, Carbone, Frederick, Massaro, Orr, H. Talbot, K. Talbot, Superintendent Swartz, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Swain, Business Manager Giaquinto

Absent: None

MOVED by Carbone, SECONDED by Orr, that the Board of Education adjourn to Executive Session in order to discuss matters relating to negotiations.

The Board adjourned to Executive Session at 6:34 p.m. and returned to Open Session at 7:03 p.m.

SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS (SUSAN M. SWARTZ, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS)

 Superintendent Swartz discussed the lockout situation in the district this past week.  She explained that although some feedback she received felt that there wasn’t adequate communication on the part of the District, she communicated to staff, students and the community when she had factual information to report.  She informed the Board that reporting information before it could be vetted and proven to be factual could create a panic situation among staff and students.  She understands that parents and students are feeling frightened, but feels that reporting misinformation could make a situation much worse than it is.

CAPSBA- Local school boards are still working on getting some form of this up and running

Legislative Liaison- nothing new to report

PTA Council- nothing new to report

Audit Committee- they will meet on May 8th

Policy Committee- they are working on the 5000’s

Board of Education Goals- they continue to work on communication and will shortly be working on the Superintendent’s review

OTHER BUSINESS

 Mr. Bucciferro reported that the Scotia Fire Department is looking into working with the schools more on activities involving safety.

The Board discussed board members attending school functions on a more regular basis.

The Board commended the HS production of the Music Man for a wonderful show.  They also commented on the great turnout for the Scotia Relief fundraiser.
