Free lunches for kids this summer

With summer upon us, local organizations and school districts are helping to continue providing for children outside of the school year. If you missed today’s Daily Gazette, here are some resources for food they shared for our local families.

Summer meals in Schenectady are provided by the Sycamore Collaborative — formerly SiCM — or the city school district, and are available at multiple community sites. Anyone 18 years of age or younger is eligible for a free meal.

This Friday, June 28, Sycamore Collaborative will hold an event to kick-off the summer session as well as celebrate the success to date. The community is invited to gather at Jerry Burrell Park from noon to 3 p.m.

To help combat food insecurity — or even just to give the kids a space to go and be with other kids — free lunches are available region-wide. The sites listed are all eat-in, meaning the meals must be consumed on the premises.

The following sites will be open for lunch starting July 1, running through Aug. 30.

  • Southgate Apartments at 105 Frank St., Schenectady, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Schenectady County Public Library: Central Library, 99 Clinton St., Schenectady, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
