Many of you may be curious about what to expect next year when your 5th grader transitions to middle school. We want to share some activities we have planned to help both you and your child feel at ease and prepared for this new chapter. We are offering a parents-only orientation, a student visit during school hours, and a summer orientation program.
The Parent Orientation Meeting for current 5th grade parents will take place on May 8, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. This meeting is intended solely for parents and will help everyone familiarize themselves with the middle school environment. For those who are unable to attend or prefer to view the presentation from home, I have included a link to our “welcome to the middle school video,” which has been used in recent years.
In addition, we will invite 5th graders from each elementary school for a visitation to the middle school. During this visit, students will interact with some of the 6th grade teachers and current middle school staff, along with receiving a tour of the building. Please mark the date of your child’s visit on your calendars. The visitations will take place in the morning, and students will return to their elementary schools before lunchtime.
- Glendaal: June 3, 9:20–10:30 a.m.
- Sacandaga: May 7, 9:20–10:30 a.m.
- Glen-Worden: May 28, 9:20–10:30 a.m.
- Lincoln: May 19, 9:20–10:30 a.m.
We will host a summer orientation program in late August. This event will allow students to familiarize themselves with the school, locate their homeroom and lockers, and go over their tentative schedules. Additionally, they will have the chance to buy a lock for their locker and practice their new combination, which will greatly help in easing any anxiety for the first few days of school!
We look forward to welcoming your children and family into our middle school community. If you have any questions, please reach out to Robert Cosmer, Middle School Principal, at (518) 382-1263.
