Scotia-Glenville Board of Education approved Andrea Polikoski as the Principal of Glen-Worden Elementary
“Since 2001, I have called the Scotia-Glenville area my home. My belief in the power of community is so profound that, ‘be a community’ has long been a guiding principle of mine for students. It fills me with pride to embark on the journey of giving back to the cherished community where I have lived and thrived for so long.”– Andrea Polikoski
Mrs. Polikoski brings extensive experience to her role as Principal of Glen-Worden Elementary School, having previously served as Principal of Schoharie Elementary School for nearly a decade. She holds a New York State professional certification as a School Building Leader and permanent certification for Pre-K through Grade 6. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego in 1999 and a Master of Science in Educational Psychology from The College of Saint Rose in 2005.
“I am committed to fostering a school atmosphere that is both inviting and secure, highlighting the significance of nurturing relationships and knowledge. This approach enables our learners to reach their full potential. Balance is essential, and in recognition of the dedication shown by our students, staff, and families, I strive to create joyful moments through unique celebrations—whether it’s dance parties, adventure clubs, or family carnivals,” she said.
Tartan Pride
Three words that encapsulate what Tartan Pride means to Mrs. Polikoski are: child-centered, supportive, and excellence.
“I came from the the Cunningham Clan. Interestingly, our family tartan shares the same colors as the S-G Tartans, creating a special bond with the community we hold dear,” she revealed.
In her leisure time, Mrs. Polikoski enjoys reading and also loves hiking at Indian Kill with her bullmastiff, biking with her two sons, and camping with her husband. “These activities strengthen our family ties and enrich our shared experiences. We also enjoy attending concerts, playing tennis, kayaking, sledding at Collins Park, and ice skating at Indian Meadows.”
Sacandaga Elementary Principal Tonya Federico stated, “Andrea and I started our teaching careers together in Schenectady. She is an incredible educator who always puts kids at the heart of everything she does. Andrea’s innovative spirit, collaborative nature, and sharp intelligence shine through in her work. I can already see her excitement to join the Scotia-Glenville school community and become a beloved member of the Glen-Worden family.” Superintendent Susan Swartz resonated with Principal Federico’s enthusiasm, stating, “I am excited to welcome Mrs. Polikoski to our S-G family. She truly demonstrates a deep commitment to public education and the success of each child.” Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Rick Arket, added, “We are thrilled to have Andrea join our Scotia-Glenville team. Her exceptional leadership abilities and extensive experience will greatly benefit our district. Andrea will be an excellent fit at Glen-Worden.”
Mrs. Polikoski was selected through a competitive process that included interviews with administration, faculty, school and district leaders, along with the Board of Education. She will officially begin her position as principal of Glen-Worden on January 2, but intends to meet with students and Interim Principal Ann Comley prior to Christmas.
