Empowering the next generation: supporting students on their educational journey
Scotia-Glenville High School has been named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll, which recognizes schools with successful AP programs that provide opportunities for students to earn college credit and enhance college readiness. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect their commitment to fostering a college-going culture and increasing access to AP programs. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
SGHS achieved the following levels of distinction:
- 43% of seniors took at least one AP Exam during high school (Bronze Level)
- 34% of seniors scored a three or higher on at least one AP Exam (Silver Level)
- 14% of seniors took five or more AP Exams (Gold Level)
The high school offers 14 rotating AP courses, 15 AP sections, and has nine AP teachers. Principal Peter Bednarek expressed pride in the Class of 2024, highlighting their exceptional performance in Advanced Placement classes and their commitment to rigorous college-level coursework. “Our teachers, counselors, and administrators hope to see this year’s class further the success of those Tartans who have gone before. We are dedicated to supporting the students’ preparation for their future educational endeavors,” Principal Bednarek said.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) allows high school students to pursue college-level studies and potentially earn college credit or advanced placement. With AP courses available in 38 subjects, students develop critical thinking skills, learn to construct strong arguments, and consider various perspectives on issues, all of which prepare them for college and beyond. Research shows that students who score 3 or higher on an AP Exam are more likely to succeed in college and earn a college degree.
