Summer learning that was out of this world

student looks through microscopeAs the sun almost sets on summer, and the first day of school draws near, the spirit of exploration and discovery still lingers in the air from a cosmic journey that took place during the summer learning programs at S-G CSD.

When Rachel Ciotoli took the position of principal for both the Learning Leaps and Extended School Year (ESY) programs, her vision was to have both programs participate in the same culminating event. Along with administrative intern Chelsea Murphy, they decided on the theme of “Explorations in Space”.

Under the guidance of Principal Ciotoli and her dedicated team, imaginations led to a galaxy of projects taking shape. From crafting model rockets to unraveling the mysteries of distant planets, every student and staff member played a part in this stellar adventure.

The grand finale transformed the school into a walking museum, with each project shining like a star in the night sky. Families gathered, eyes wide with wonder, as students proudly showcased their cosmic creations.

Amidst the twinkling displays, voices rang out with facts about the universe, shared each morning on the announcements. Now, at the culminating event, these facts came to life as students took the stage to share their newfound knowledge with pride and joy.

The Learning Leaps and Extended School Year programs have not only bridged the gap between seasons but have also ignited a passion for learning that will surely carry on into the new school year.
