Dear Parents/Guardians,
I want to take a moment to address an important matter that was reported by the Village of Scotia Police Department and covered in the Schenectady Gazette. Last Wednesday, a 14-year-old student from Scotia made a concerning threat on the social media platform TikTok. While the threat was not directed at any specific students, staff, or at Scotia-Glenville Central School District, the situation is one we take seriously.
On Saturday morning, the Village of Scotia Police Department was notified of the threat by the FBI and New York State Police. Upon receiving this information, the police initiated a thorough investigation. I want to reassure you that based on their investigation, and collaboration with the school district, no safety threat to our schools was identified.
The student involved has been charged with making a threat of mass harm, which is classified as a misdemeanor. In addition to the legal consequences, the student will also face school-based consequences, aligned with district policy. The safety of our school community remains our primary focus and I can say with confidence, this incident was handled swiftly and resolved.
Thank you,
Susan M. Swartz, Superintendent
