Mission Statement: The Special Education Department’s goal is to cultivate an inclusive and equitable learning environment that embraces the unique needs of each student through specially designed instruction, collaborative relationships, and dedicated, compassionate staff.
The Scotia-Glenville Central School District strives to work collaboratively to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with the support and services needed to encourage the acquisition of the academic, social, and vocational skills required beyond their school career.
Decisions regarding support and services are made by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), as outlined by NYS Education Law.
District Committees & Eligibility
Special education services are available to any student with a mental, physical, or emotional impairment that affects educational performance. Qualifying conditions include autism, deafness, deaf-blindness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, learning disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairments, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, or visual impairment.
Preschool Committee (CPSE)Ensures parents of children ages 3 to 5 are aware of evaluation opportunities and preschool special education services. |
School-Age Committee (CSE)Makes placement recommendations utilizing local programs and district schools whenever possible to meet educational needs. |
