BOE Meeting Recap: Sept. 28, 2026

The Scotia-Glenville Board of Education met to review major capital project milestones, approve official district goals for the 2026–2027 school year, and determine the strategy for the district's upcoming superintendent search.

Capital Improvements Project (Phase 2 Near Completion)

Alastair Aitchison & Jack Tateo provided an update on Phase 2 projects, which focused heavily on facility mechanicals and district-wide security enhancements:

  • Enhanced Security Vestibules (95% Complete): Final exterior paneling and security booth installations are finishing up at the High School. Once operational, transaction windows will shift to the exterior of the main vestibules.
  • Middle School Upgrades:
    • Acoustic panels were installed in the cafeteria to reduce sound reverberation.
    • Relocated the AV rack to a purpose-built closet to improve space utility.
    • New backlit LED Wallace signage will be installed by October 9th.
  • Athletic Track Resurfaced: The track was recently resurfaced. After discussion with Board members, it was noted that due to strong maintenance, the track could exceed the 15-year normal life span before requiring a full replacement.
  • Glendaal Perimeter Fence: A new safety fence was successfully installed prior to the start of the school year.

Superintendent Search & District Operations

  • Firm/Group Selected for Superintendent Search: The Board reached a consensus to partner with BOCES for the upcoming search, citing their strong regional network and community engagement process. Board members noted a desire to act efficiently to keep the timeline moving forward.
  • Transportation & Bus Routes: Our new School Business Administrator mentioned that is was only two weeks into the school year, and the district continues to refine bus routes and schedules. She also followed up with information that fuel purchases remain within budget thanks to NYS contract pricing.
  • New "Thought Exchange" Platform: Launching between October 15th and early November, this digital tool will allow community members to submit ideas and feedback directly to the district about uses of Glen-Worden.

Formal Approvals & Board Resolutions

  • 2026–2027 Board Goals Approved: Officially adopted.
  • Personnel Appointments:
    • Announced that Joseph Russo will start as Transportation Director, effective October 1st now.
    • Approved the hiring of a new district Behavior Specialist.
    • Approved our new .6 Art teacher, Jules Pecha to start as a .3 prior to full release from her current school district.
  • Labor Agreement: Approved the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Scotia-Glenville Teachers Association (SGTA).

District Highlights & Student Achievements

  • Unified Sports Win: The Unified team claimed a 5–4 victory over Waterford in their inaugural Bocce match up!
  • Girls Soccer Tournament Champions: The girls' soccer team won the district tournament in Greenville, led by key performances from Reegan Keating (6 tournament goals) and Addie Boniewski (Goalkeeper).
  • Color Run: A reminder that this Friday’s annual Color Run fundraiser will take place at Lincoln Elementary.
